Long-Term Performance of Ductile Iron Pipes

چکیده
Evaluate the impact on pipe performance and life expectancy of the transition (1991) from wall thickness class to pressure class designations in the manufacture and design standards for ductile iron pipes. Study and compare historical failure rates of ductile iron pipes in a geographically diverse group of water utilities from North America and Australia. Evaluate reliability and capability of sensors to measure corrosion of ductile iron pipes in the field. Exhume ductile iron pipes from several geographically diverse water utilities and study in detail the statistical properties of observed corrosion pits. Use these statistical properties of corrosion pits (typically obtained from the inspection of external pipe surface using non-intrusive, non-destructive techniques [NI-NDT]) to develop sampling schemes to assess pipe condition.

The Investigation of Subsidence Effect on Buried Pipes in 3D Space
Buried pipes in the modern societies are considered as lifelines with a vital and essential role in the human life cycle. The performance of buried pipes is affected by many factors such as ground surface subsidence. In this paper, the effect of subsidence on pipelines is investigated using a three-dimensional numerical modeling developed in FLAC3D software for four types of most commonly used ...
متن کاملProcessing Laser Range Image for the Investigation on the Long-Term Performance of Ductile Iron Pipe
Prediction of service life of ductile iron pipe is carried out using the information on pipe condition, backfill/soil properties, and corrosion rates, as well as historical failure records. Among the factors that affect pipe condition, external pitting corrosion is a prominent variable contributing to the disintegrity of the pipe. A pipe scanner equipped with a laser displacement sensor was use...
متن کاملChlorine decay and DBP formation under different flow regions in PVC and ductile iron pipes: Preliminary results on the role of flow velocity and radial mass transfer
A systematic experimental study was conducted using a pilot-scale drinking water distribution system simulator to quantify the effect of hydrodynamics, total organic carbon (TOC), initial disinfectant levels, and pipe materials on chlorine decay and disinfection byproduct (DBP) formation. The first phase of the experiments focused on the variables of flow rate and pipe materials and their effec...
متن کاملModeling pipe deterioration using soil properties – an application of fuzzy logic expert system
Several factors may contribute to the structural failure of cast/ductile iron water mains, the most important of which is considered to be corrosion. The ANSI/AWWA C105/A21.5–99 10-point scoring (10-P) method is the most common method used to predict soil corrosivity potential, which is based on soil properties. For a given soil sample, each soil property is evaluated for its contribution towar...
متن کاملEffect of Melting Techniques on Ductile Iron Castings Properties
Ductile iron is one of the most important engineering materials, in view of its excellent castability, signifi cantly better mechanical properties and low cost [1, 2]. It represents the fastest growing segment of the iron market. In the medium term, it is to be expected that the market share of nodular iron will level off at 40 % to 45 % [3]. Achieving the full potential of ductile iron require...
